Southlake Health is transforming into a Distributed Health Network, which includes a new acute care hospital in East Gwillimbury. This will allow Southlake to meet the needs of a growing and aging population, improve experiences for patients and staff, and bring care even closer to home.

On April 27, the Province of Ontario announced its support for a new full-service acute care hospital in East Gwillimbury as part of Southlake Health’s vision to build a Distributed Health Network over the next decade. Supported by a $10 million provincial investment, the announcement marked a major step forward in transforming health care across northern York Region and southern Simcoe County.

The new hospital in East Gwillimbury will help meet the needs of some of the fastest growing and aging communities in Ontario by increasing access to emergency, inpatient, and surgical care closer to home. Designed as a modern, state-of-the-art acute care facility, the hospital will improve capacity across the region, enhance patient flow, and help reduce pressures on the health care system as demand for care continues to grow.

As planning moves forward, Southlake Health will continue working with provincial and municipal partners, clinicians, staff, patients, and communities to help shape a hospital that supports high-quality, connected care for generations to come.
